Rust and Tannins
Rust and Tannins
Autumnal magic from the falling leaves
What to expect...
The seasonal shift is now upon us as summer fades and so our botanical practices are transforming. At this time of year the woodland is full of golden leaves and with that comes the most beautiful tannin-rich art. In this session we will be creating with the shapes of the mighty oak and sycamore. Crafting stunning leaf prints onto pre-treated plant based silks to preserve the mood of autumn. This will include exploring the mordanting process and how to use iron blankets in your dye practice. Whilst your pieces are brewing, we will also be making a simple seasonal ink for you to deepen your understanding of how to express with nature's pigments and how pH modifiers can shift the tones of your creations. These methods can be translated into many other ecological art projects. Hopefully this will ignite the spark for your journey with the wild! There is a coffee shop and bakery on site for any refreshments you might fancy and the you are welcome to explore our living museum once you have finished your session in the greenhouse. (Parking at the Heritage Centre included in ticket price)
