Harvesting the colours of the season

140 British pounds
Gower Heritage Centre, Parkmill, Swansea

What to expect...

Join natural dye artist, Stacey Keay, for this full day experience creating with plant pigments. In this introductory workshop we will be discovering the basics of making and using organic natural dyes. You will receive guidance in designing a collection of naturally dyed sample fabrics for crafting projects and developing your practice at home. With the language we create you will begin to understand methods of mordanting and pre-treating your fabrics, creating simple designs plus techniques such as: - Steam bundle dyeing - Shibori resist dyeing - Rust and tannin treatments - Experimenting with pH modifiers This course will take a traditional approach using seasonal plants and food waste recipes. We will be working with 100% natural fibres, including cotton muslin cloth and plant-based silk and only using non-toxic mineral mordants. This experience will include herbal tea and cake, but you will need to provide your own lunch for our break around midday. You will also need to bring an apron or wear old clothes for this activity. (Parking at the Heritage Centre is included in your ticket price) If you have any questions or special requirements for this course, please contact Stacey: hello@we-are-woven.co.uk
